Decisions of Fate

This course on Jewish Medical Ethics considers how modern medical dilemmas can be ethically resolved through thoughtful analysis of analogous cases in medical ethics, classical Jewish legal literature, and U.S. Law. Through exploring these foundations, professionals can better serve the interests of Jewish patients faced with difficult decisions with cultural sensitivity.

Lesson Objectives

To develop greater sensitivity to how Jewish culture affects patients’ interactions with the healthcare system. Learn how the Jewish ethical perspective impacts a Jewish patient’s medical decisions and state of mind.
To identify ways Jewish medical ethics is similar to or different from the secular approaches to medical ethics. Obtain greater familiarity with the Jewish legal complexities related to risky medical treatments, end-of-life care, abortion, and autopsies.
