Do you ever feel like an outsider? Have you ever been sidelined for your differences? Why do our “abnormalities” prevent us from thriving as part of the crowd, enjoying full involvement in our communities? The answer might surprise you. “The Thing about Normal” challenges teens to redefine their perception of themselves and of others, through thought-provoking discussions regarding the topic of disability inclusion. This course will introduce new ways of thinking about disabilities, the people who have them, and what each of us can do to empower others to participate fully in society. In the process, students will experience newfound insight into their personal identity, their own humanity, and the profound power they possess to shape the world for good.
