This May, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) will unveil its spring course, Biblical Reflections: Finding Yourself in the Book of Genesis.
The stories in the Bible have intrigued sages and laymen alike and have inspired thousands of artistic retellings. This six-session course examines classic stories from Genesis in a modern light, focusing on their eternal relevance to everyday life.
“These stories are in the Bible because they deal with the most powerful of human motives and feelings: the quests for love, purpose, identity, and redemption,” says Rabbi Eli Silberstein, the course author. “Biblical Reflections takes a unique and personal perspective and shows how these stories are the stories of your life, reflecting your joy and your pain, your struggles and your accomplishments.”
Participants will identify with Biblical characters grappling with feelings and dilemmas that lie at the heart of the human experience. Lessons will examine a range of commentaries, and students will amass concrete tools and gain insights into how to respond more thoughtfully and effectively to such challenges.
Rabbi Kasriel Shemtov of The Shul - Chabad Lubavitch will be teaching this course at The Shul 6890 W. Maple Rd. for six Tuesday's, starting May 5, and potential students are welcome to call 248-788-4000 or visit www.theshul.net for more information.
Biblical Reflections is designed for people at all levels of Jewish knowledge. Participants without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning can attend and enjoy this course. All JLI courses are open to the entire Jewish community, and attendees need not to be a member of any particular synagogue or temple.
