The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will present “To Be a Jew in the Free World: Jewish Identity Through the Lens of Modern History,” a six-session course that begins Monday, Feb. 10.

There will be three class schedules: six Mondays from Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Waxman Chabad Center, 2479 S. Green Road in Beachwood; six Tuesdays from Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mandel Jewish Community Center, 26001 S. Woodland Road in Beachwood; and six Wednesdays from Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Waxman Chabad Center.

Rabbi Shmuli Friedman, local Jewish Learning Institute instructor, will conduct the course.

An objective of the course is to initiate a discussion about Jewish identity, why it is still relevant and what can be done to make it something future generations will cherish, said Rabbi Zalman Abraham, of Jewish Learning Institute’s headquarters in Brooklyn, N.Y., in a press release.

The course is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning. It is open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue, temple or other house of worship.

Jewish Learning Institute courses are presented in Cleveland in conjunction with Chabad of Cleveland and the Fund for the Jewish Future of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
